Election Rule Change Memo

CANYON MESA COMMUNITYASSOCIATION
APPROVED ADDITION TO ELECTION RULES & PROCEDURES

Please be advised that at the August 18, 2023 General Session of the Board of Directors of the Canyon Mesa Community Association, the below noted additions to the Election Rules were approved with immediate effect:

Candidate Statement: The candidacy form shall include the opportunity for each candidate to submit a 200-word maximum written statement that is reasonably related to the election and should be limited to information about the candidate only and shall not contain defamatory statements. Candidate Statements shall be included with the Association’s mailing of the Notice and Ballot materials.

If a candidate submits a statement in excess of the 200-word limitation the candidate shall be asked to resubmit in a manner compliant with the word limitation contained in these Election Rules. Failure to do so shall result in the candidate’s statement being omitted from the Association’s mailing of the Notice and Ballot materials. The candidate must resubmit the statement within the timeframe prescribed by the managing agent and/or the Inspector of Elections.

California Civil Code Section 5105(a)(1) provides that “equal access shall be provided to all candidates and members advocating a point of view.” Therefore, the 200-word limitation also applies to member statements.
